about
This was the first song I came up with for this album, which lead to the album title.
Joe Mayeur is a guy I met a few years ago. He used to be a guitarist for Madison, WI-based reggae band Natty Nation, but only recorded on their first album in the 90s. He was willing to record some skanking guitar to really add to the reggae flavor.
For a while, this was the longest song I ever recorded, until the later "Deep Fake" came into being.
lyrics
Let me tell ya about da Bugmen
Dere all ovah, can ya see dem?
Dey look like humans, but where dey thrive
Is consuming more tech from da mega-hive
First in line for da new phone
From da rotten apple, a "milestone"
Da Bugmen, no personalities
Foot soldiers of technocracy
5G rollout, it comin' soon
What is 5G? Da bringa of doom
A micro-microwave, fryin' da brain
Just for fasta internet, quite insane
Bugmen don't care; dey want fasta streams
Netflix on da go; dey living memes
5G towers, everywhere, every block
So Bugmen can see more Marvel movie schlock
Hollywood hypocrites tell ya how to live
To dem, da Bugmen like to give
Dey talk about respect and unity
While raping in gated communities
Dey play fake people on a screen
Da real world, dey've nevah seen
Bugmen, of course, are not critical
Of phonies who tink dey political
Bugmen are blind, goin' into debt
Dey don't know or care 'bout the internet
European Union, tryin' to divide
Article 13, freedom denied
Copyright infringement is what dey say
But really, dey take our freedoms away
Hey EU! You own da internet when?
It was shaped by da people, even da Bugmen
Consumerism, da Bugman's disease
Gotta build up dem credit card fees
Dey be primed, like Babylon
Don't care about da forests, except Amazon
Amazon dot com, a big pyramid
Jeff Bezos at the top, power unlimited
Bugmen, like locusts, consume from dis disgrace
I and I take a flamethrower, burn da fucking place
No, I ain't gamin' an algorithm
So what be da point of dis here riddim?
I'm hopin' dat I am not insane
I tink even Bugs still have a brain
The world is wrong, nothing fits
Seems everything around has gone to shit
So here I am, here to make waves:
WAKE UP, YOU ALL ARE SLAVES!
